Breaking the stereotypes

Being unconventional is the hottest new trend with the youngsters today. If you want to make yourself stand out and make a statement, follow in the footsteps of those who did not follow in the footsteps of any. And that is where the biggest irony lies.  I must confess. When I first arrived at the Delhi University campus, I was star struck by people around me. Those geeky glasses, ragged kurtas, torn jeans, jholas, shabby look, the cannot-care-less attitude. Every single observation I made was a source of inspiration for me. And I thought. This is what I see myself as, at the other side of the 3 years and this is what I must become, if I want to stand out. Yes. The trend-setters. Not the trend-followers.   It was kind of presumptuous on my part (like any novice) to think that if I want to be a part of this so-called ‘unconventional’ crowd, I must look like the crowd. And that shall begin with getting the right kind of wardrobe. Today, when I look back and reflect upon all...

LEVEL ONE- cleared

The clock strikes 6. I wake up. Reluctant. Hesitant to leave my warm cosy blanket. Who would want to. It’s a long day ahead. And the thought of it is killing me already. My first official day at college and there is an hour and a half to travel. And that too on a DTC bus! For people who have never travelled in one, thank your stars. The experience grills you beyond anything. Pretty nerve-wrecking for someone who has spent her entire life travelling in a school bus, that literally picked her up from her door-step and dropped her back at the same place, safe and sound. Someone who has only heard of the (in) famous Blue line buses. That is enough to shake her confidence. My dad drops me at the bus depot. I hop on to the bus that will take me to the Kashmere Gate metro station. There, I am to board the metro to my college.   Just a quick glance through the people sitting in the bus and I am nervous already. My heart pounding. Really hard. And I feel lost...

Delhi Metro- the ride of your life

Delhi- the city that oozes life and bustles with energy. There is something really charming about the city which I find hard to figure out even after having lived here for 3-odd years. A certain raw something juxtaposed to something highly refined. However what I definitely am sure about is that a lot of this enigmatic energy comes from the Delhi Metro-practically my second home. I admit I spent more quality time, doing something constructive, in the metros than anywhere else-not even my classroom. That thing which I enjoy doing most - Observation- came handy here. A friend of mine once confessed that she loves watching ‘Big Boss’ for the sole reason that she found there the most diverse traits of human character blending into each other(err...mostly clashing with each other). I suggest hop on to the metro and you’re sure to have a ride of your life. I bet there can’t be a more colourful and a more adventurous place. Aunties decked with jewellery giving Bappi Lehri a run for his...

Just Like That

HELLO friends! This is my FIRST ever attempt at writing something down. Please do not expect a lofty fancy name with an intellectually-stimulating content, because I believe in simplicity and communicating thoughts in the simplest most effective way possible. Plus I don’t want to make anyone here feel insignificant either, which I personally have felt at least a zillion times (and  continue to feel ) looking at people’s blogs with OMG! such impressive stuff that a lot of it sounds German and Italian to me .For the record if there is anyone Sheldon-ish out there, the I-don’t-want-to-make-anyone-here-feel-insignificant part was SARCASM! I love observing people. I think it’s the most amazing job on earth. U know why? Predominantly because it doesn’t cost u a penny! (Yippee!! For all those misers out there like me!) Back to business. Now ‘people’ is a very vague term. So let me just stream it down a little for u. ‘Guys’. They amaze me. Yes they do...
